The parish magazine is published today but here is a newsletter. I hope that you and your families and friends are keeping well and wish you every blessing and happiness for the days ahead.
Today is the Fourth Sunday of Advent.
First, details of our Christmas services:
On Christmas Eve there will be a Mass at 6.30pm. There will be Mass at 12 midnight which will be preceded by a service of carols and readings starting at 11.30pm. The Church will be open from 11pm. On Christmas morning there will be Masses at 9.30 and 11am. The Mass at 9.30 will commemorate the visit of the shepherds to the crib and the Mass at 11 will be the solemn Mass of the day.
It has been decided that there will not be a procession through the Village on Christmas Eve this year but there will be a service of readings outside All Saints Church on the Heath at 4.30pm sponsored by Churches Together in Blackheath.
This year, with some regret, we decided that once again it would not be practical for the children to perform the cycle of mystery plays in the Church. We are keeping the costumes safely and maybe we can re-introduce them next year.
Boxing Day, 26th December, this year is a Sunday. The day will be celebrated as the feast of the Holy Family and there will be a Pastoral letter from the Archbishop. Masses will be at the normal times of 9.30 and 11am and 5pm.
A word of thanks to the Choir for the splendid Advent carol service last week.
You will have heard of the death of Mrs. Fleming. May she rest in peace. Her family had a long association with this parish. The funeral Mass will be at 12 noon on Tuesday.
Looking back, it has been a remarkable year, gradually trying to cope with the Covid restrictions. It was good that we were able to
celebrate both Confirmations and a First Holy Communion. Also there have been several marriages, postponed from earlier dates. Congratulations and best wishes to everybody who shared in these days.
A recipe to use up some left- over Christmas vegetables. Puree them roughly with a food processor. Make a white sauce with butter flour and milk and mix with the vegetables, stirring over a low heat until it is well mixed. Stir in two egg yolks and then one whole eggs. Cool and mix in two stiffly beaten egg whites. Turn into a souffle dish and bake at 200C for about 20 minutes. I hope that it will work.
A favourite poem from St. John of the Cross:
Del Verbo divino
La virgen prenada
Viene de camino
Si le dais posada.
The repairs to the clock and the bells were delayed but I hope that the work will take place this week.
Make my day.
Best wishes to you all
Monsignor Nicholas Rothon
